I am a big fan of all forms of pixel art (perler beads, knitting/crochet, cross stitch and bead loom!). Having seen A LOT of it, I thought, mayhaps, we had sadly reached an end of crafting techniques that could yield a delightfully pixelated design. I was so so wrong.
The piece below was done by David Austin of ChainMailBasket. That beast is 38″ x 45″ and weighs over 16 pounds. That’s a lot considering it’s made of aluminum links!
How long does it take to build something of that magnitude? One and a half years. Now that’s dedication. Click the image for a larger more detailed view!

“Mt. Gamemore” shirt by SplitReason
On their LP only release Black Pear Tree from September of 2008, the Mountain Goats included the biographical song “Thank you Mario, but our princess is in another castle”. It is sung from Toad’s point of view as he waits, fearing for his life, for rescue. It’s a soft song that on some days fills me with hope (yeah when you came in/I could breathe again) and on some day is so sad (I wondered if I’d wake to find myself in flames/as I waited here for you), but on all days is haunting and beautiful. The album is pretty hard to find these days, but a google search will lead you to many MP3s of this song. Or you can listen below!

The Mountain Goats & Kaki King - “Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is In Another Castle.”
While mucking around in Nintendo’s Corporate website trying to get more information on the newly announced 4th installment of the Professor Layton series in Japan (while the US market waits to see even the second title released here), I found this awfully professional looking version of Mario. Forgive the blur, but I had to blow him up 1000%! There is also a jumping version, but it didn’t blow up as well. So dapper!
*blatant HIMYM reference
