I’ve often asked my friends if there would be anything wrong with raising my hypothetical child on cartoons solely from my generation? Maybe I’m biased, but as a current cartoon watcher, ours seem so much better!
Luckily for my hypothetical child (and my niece) (and me), Amazon is selling many of the complete series box sets of the biggest names of our day for half off*!

Dungeons & Dragons: The Complete Animated Series
Regular price $24.99 Amazon price: $9.99

G.I. Joe A Real American Hero: Complete Collectors Set
Regular price $179.99 Amazon price: $93.99

Transformers: 25th Anniversary Matrix Of Leadership Edition [The Complete Series]
Regular price $169.99 Amazon price: $86.99
*I don’t mean to be an Amazon shill, these prices are just really good and I thought people would want to know!
I think that sharing cartoons from your fave era with your kid from an early age is a great idea. However, doing so to the exclusion of even creepier-than-a-couple-decades-ago and even-more-marketing-centric-too contemporary cartoons is akin to homeschooling. That is to say, I’m sure it can be done well, but try not to keep your kid so clueless about his/her own contemporaries’ cartoons that they can’t carry on a conversation in the line for the swing set…
Just to be completely literal about a probably-rhetorical question. Sorry ’bout that…
Nah, you’ve pretty much wrapped up my thoughts in a nutshell. I really like your comparison to homeschooling :) The kiddo would have to have some Yu-Gi-O or whatever was hot in his/her time so just to have some cultural currency with it’s peers. And I certainly couldn’t afford to buy all the old school toys (unless they have a third wave in 15 yrs!). So some modernity would have to be allowed :)
