It’s delicious like frosting

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Kekai Kotaki? Because I do, a lot. And how am I rewarded for my fandom? By a trailer for Guild Wars 2 which is nearly all done by Kekai. SO drool worthy.

As an added bonus, for those of you going to PAX, Kekai reports that ArenaNet will be giving away free copies of the Guild Wars 2 Art Book. That’s 128 pages of delicious goodness! (but don’t get one before I’ve gotten one, deal?)

Proof that memes are a force of good

While many people may scorn internet memes, I personally find them hilarious and fascinating. The fact that some guy’s weird video of his cat playing a piano has spawned a video sensation, shirts and now papercraft is awesome. Globalism at its finest.

Just when you thought you’d seen it all…

“Yoshi” by Hayley from Sub Rosa Designs

I am a big fan of all forms of pixel art (perler beads, knitting/crochet, cross stitch and bead loom!). Having seen A LOT of it, I thought, mayhaps, we had sadly reached an end of crafting techniques that could yield a delightfully pixelated design. I was so so wrong.

BEHOLD! CHAINMAIL PIXEL ART!

The piece below was done by David Austin of ChainMailBasket. That beast is 38″ x 45″ and weighs over 16 pounds. That’s a lot considering it’s made of aluminum links!

How long does it take to build something of that magnitude? One and a half years. Now that’s dedication. Click the image for a larger more detailed view!

Disney = Venom?

As of 7:15am PST this morning, it appears Disney will be buying Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion dollars [source].

What will this mean to Marvel (especially it’s Marvel Knights and the MAX comic lines)? Will Tony Stark still be an alcoholic? Will Northstar still be gay? Hopefully, little will change in the House of M, but only time will tell…

[sidenote: With this merger, Disney will be adding Marvel to it's stable of other entertainment companies including ABC, ESPN, Touchstone Pictures, Miramax Films, and Pixar]

8-Bit Trip

Sometimes I scoff at what people are able to waste time doing. Other times, like now, I’m terribly jealous of what people are able to find time to create.

8-Bit Trip” by Swedish musicians Rymdreglage took 1500 hrs to film. The swell in popularity of this short has broken their website, but their Youtube Channel is still intact to explore more of this duo’s creations.

Happy Hump Day!

As always, you have to love and be enthralled by William Shatner.
There’s just no resisting him.

Ellis makes Bendis’s birthday dream come true

A twitter exchange between two comic luminaries …

Just when you thought Caprica might be good…

Ah… James Marsters… why can’t you have fallen into a crevasse after Buffy the Vampire Slayer wrapped? I can’t say you’ve raised the bar since then. I have some serious concerns about you making Caprica a campy mess with your presence.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s description of Marster’s character, it appears he’ll basically be playing … Spike (pre-goodiegoodie transformation)? “Marsters will play a dangerous terrorist leader by the name of Barnabus Greeley… Driven by desires both moralistic and carnal, Barnabus is as lethal as he is unpredictable.”

May the power of Eric Stoltz and Patton Oswalt (also recently confirmed to be joining the show) be enough to carry Caprica through…

I am contractually obligated to post this.

I would post this anyway, because it is hilarious*, but I believe addendum 42-b. of theNerdPatrol constitution requires me to facilitate fanboy obsession. So, under that clause, I present to you Felicia Day stroking herself and rolling around in gold in the Guild music video, “Do You Wanna Date My Avatar?

Additional fun nerd facts: The video was directed by Jed Whedon (brother to Joss, co-writer of Dr. Horrible) and features Jed’s wife (and Dr. Horrible co-collaborator) Maurissa Tancharoenas both Bladez Admirer #2 (on the right) and Tinkerbella’s Back-up Dancer #3 (also on the right).

*also hilarious: This bday message from Jed and Maurissa to Felicia Day [video] (with friends like these, who needs enemies?)

I do believe this qualifies as douchebaggery

Let’s pretend you are Bryan Singer. Once upon a time you rode the crest of the comic book movie wave by directing the first of the Bronze Age* of superhero movies - X-Men I & X2 (lest you forget, very exciting at the time).

Now imagine you decided to jump ship and make a mediocre movie called Superman Returns… and then you fell off the face of the earth. How might you want to make your comeback? Develop a fresh new movie franchise to put you mark on?

Nah, why not just rehash territory that’s already a proven cash cow: Battlestar Galactica?

Bryan Singer has signed on to make a Battlestar Galactia movie that will not be associated with the recent blockbuster television series, but instead will be yet another reimagining. Good choice Singer. I’m sure people will really give a shit to see your version.

May the force feed your face

Huzzah! I first discovered these utensils of excellence a few months ago, but at that time there was no clues as to availability or even if they would be released in the US. Later, it was revealed that they would be available at SDCC, but no other information for a wider release.

NOW, Kotobukiya’s Star Wars Lightsaber Chopsticks are available for pre-order! So rad! Available at the Big Bad Toy Store!
