Re: Your Zombie Statue

All of Jonathon Coulton’s greatest hits are coming together in one amazing picture captured by Ryan Penagos. Or at least, Re: Your Brains + Skymall + Flickr (aka Tumblr in this case…)! I can’t believe this is real and only costs $89.99! Skymall does have everything I need!

Rosencranz & Guildenstern are stormtroopers?

We’ve seen a lot of people doing excellent photography with action figures, and in that way, Stéfan Le Dû’s work is nothing new. What is delightful about it is that he has committed to taking a new picture of his stormtrooper duo everyday for one year. He started April 3rd, 2009 and already the results are delightful! Check it out here!

Stark Industries Shipping (not so futuristic)

One might wonder, how does an expensive display of 4 life size Iron Man armors get broken down and packaged to ship across country? Perhaps in specially designed crates, or molded foam? Nah, why go through all that hassle, when you could just tape some shipping quilts around them?

thanks to agent M for the behind the scenes!

Feeling disappointed?

So it’s been a over a week since you went to the opening night screening of Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince. Bleary-eyed, you rode the cascade of anticipatory energy in the room waiting for the midnight show to start. And then you watched something that seemed to resemble Half Blood Prince, but was missing major plot points and emotional impact.

If you’re anything like me, you went home and doubted yourself. “Was it because I had been up for nearly 24 hrs that it didn’t seem scary at all when Harry was discovered on the train by Draco?” “Maybe I’m wrong that the Weasley’s house being burnt down will drastically effect the story in Deathly Hallows.”

But all my self doubt was cast aside when I read the affirming “15-minute synopsis of HBP” by Cleolinda Jones. It’s an excellent read, highly recommended!

Some Diner

DUMBLEDORE: Aren’t we supposed to be at the Dursleys’ for a Very Significant Scene?

HARRY: I, well, uh… thought I’d flirt with this waitress? You know, in a brief attempt at having a relatively normal life?

DUMBLEDORE: Please, the Chosen One doesn’t get to be happy.

I picked a non-spoilery part, but trust me, it just gets better from there! [link]

ps. I was watching a special on the making of HBP and saw that Dumbledore’s hand was blackened using CGI. W.T.F. His hand was hardly mangled. Why the hell did they feel the need to use CGI for that? So dumb. *signs the “Bring Back Puppets and Prosthetic Makeup petition”*

Nerd Critical Mass

It is close to being reached at SDCC.

ps. Wil Wheaton is joining the Guild cast and Felicia Day is writing a Guild comic [source]. And yeah, that’s Neil Gaiman. Anyone know who the girl on the left is? The girl on the left has been revealed to be Amanda Palmer, Neil Gaiman’s paramour. (thanks Cyl!)

Please attach your non-head-exploding helmet

A big thank you to Robin Thorsen (Clara, the Mage), Amy Okuda (Tinkerballa, the Ranger) and Felicia Day (Codex, the Healer) for cosplaying their Guild counterparts and making nerd boys everywhere blow their load simultaneously. *sigh* How can us normal nerd girls even compete? :)

Honey, I shrunk JLA

Google has a gorgeous SDCC inspired logo today, as drawn by comic legend Jim Lee. But it’s itty bitty! You can hardly make out that the second “O” is Wonder Woman’s invisible jet!

Luckily, DC Comics has supplied us with the full size image. Click here for a wallpaper size or the image above for the full majesty!

Hollywood money is good for SDCC

I’ve only been to the San Diego Comic Con once in my life, and it was in the year 2000. I remember being in awe of all the giant booths and signs and art. I do not remember life size replicas of Mach I-IV Iron Man armors, nor a wax sculpture of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Nor do I remember life size sculptures of Transformers.

Holy hell. This is truly the Golden Age of Geekdom. Selling out to corporations or no, it’s fun to see the things we love get realized like this! (except maybe Wax Jack… he’s a little creepy..)

Final Fantasy Red Sonja?

FF Red Sonja

Maybe the Final Fantasy influences are only in my mind, but I love this somewhat more whimsical take on Red Sonja by Jen Zee, conceptual artist for Gaia Battle. Check out her site for more gorgeousness!

Rob Liefeld can’t draw

This is an uncontroversial statement. We all know it. We all wonder what he sacrificed to what god to make his career happen. Up until now, the above Avengers cover has been the most egregious example of his anatomy butchery in my mind. According to Liefeld, the Enchantress is about 1/5 torso and 4/5 legs with no room for internal organs at all (in fact her hip may be connected to her ribcage). But now, ! may have a new favorite. Somehow over the years I missed this:

ROTFL! Someone please tell me that there is a whole website dedicated to nudifying Liefeld’s drawings! I know this is an old image so my hopes are high! Google has reveled nothing to me yet, but I will keep looking!
