Where’s the Wizard, Oz?

When I heard the Robot Chicken was sitting down for some D&D with Wizards of the Coast Dungeon Master Chris Perkins (yes, the same DM who runs the PA/PvP/WW games), I couldn’t wait to see Seth Green rolling some dice and slaying some monsters! As the first episode began, I was introduced to Dan Milano, Zeb Wells, Tom Root, Doug Goldstein, and …Kevin Schinick? Where’s Seth?! Dammit. Who are these guys, why have most of them never played D&D and why aren’t they funnier?

*SIGH*

If you would like to watch the videos of Robot Chicken playing D&D, even through they don’t feature Seth Green, you can find them all here. Meanwhile, I will find comfort in the possibility this raises that the upcoming PA/PvP/WW game (yes, there is another on it’s way!) will be a video podcast - that would be amazing!

EDIT: I just found out why Seth Green couldn’t make it - he was too busy making a guest appearance over on WWE! FTW?

I just love it when amulets tell you to do stuff!

As I am currently without a pen & paper roleplaying game, I was very happy to discover the Dungeons & Dragons themed webcomic, Guilded Age. It feels like a D&D game you’d play with your clever, wisecracking friends without the meta mockery of stereotypical nerds.

Great art + great archetypes + a fun story = Very satisfying. Go check it out!

This is all I want for Xmas… forever…

Dungeons and Dragons Super Rad Computer Table.

I’ve been hearing about Microsoft’s Surface for quite awhile now. Initially, I saw it demoed as a restaurant table where you could view a menu, order and pay just by interacting with the touchscreen table. I thought, “Cool, but this could be cooler.”

Maximum cool has just been achieved. Imagine a touchscreen computer table that is programed with every D&D rule available and accessible through a “smart” battle map. Character stats, spell effects, movement types all at your fingertips. I am sitting here drooling over this video imagining future iterations where you could spontaneously download a dungeon crawl to run through and not need a DM (c’mon, sometimes that’s fun!).

I just need a second to recover… so amazing… musn’t sell everything I own to buy…

[thanks for the tip, Bridge City Comics!]

Jones Soda loves nerds

First Jones Soda made the gorgeous Magic: the Gathering soda pack featuring the Planeswalkers of M10. Now they are releasing a gorgeous Dungeons & Dragons set featuring hot items like “Potion of Healing” and “Dwarven Draught”. So fun!

[Thanks Cyl!]

Wil Wheaton is the internet

After being away from theNerdPatrol for most of last week, I find there is a lot I need to catch up on. After careful review, there are only two things that I need to make sure you didn’t miss:

1) D&D Podcast season 3 episode 1

I love listening to the Penny Arcade boys (Mike Krahulik & Jerry Holkins), Scott Kurtz (PvP) and Wil Wheaton play some Dungeons & Dragons. It is 100% guaranteed to crack me up. This round of gaming appears to be no different. As an added bonus, the boys will be auctioning off the dice used in this game to benefit Child’s Play! Very cool.

2) The Guild, season 3 episode 1

<br/><a href="http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-US&#038;vid=6f31eb66-4360-439a-ad62-f2bdf28f550e" target="_new" title="Season 3 - Episode 1: Expansion Time">Video: Season 3 - Episode 1: Expansion Time</a>

I have to admit, that most of my love for this show is based on it’s goofiness more than it’s quality. The season 3 opener is as awkward as ever, but also still quite amusing. This season we have the added bonus of Wil Wheaton joining the cast for several webisodes! Nice codpiece, sir!

Turns out Frost Giants are big!

Gah, so pretty. Another stunner from Kekai Kotaki. It kills me not to post this full size, so please click the pic to see it in its full glory. I love having the size comparison of the man running away in the shadows at the bottom. I would run the fuck away too.
