That’s a fine shoulder badger, sir.

Heroin:Methadone
Legend of the Seeker:Game of Thrones

While I still have crying jags over the loss of Legend of the Seeker, I’m am trying to ready myself to love again when Game of Thrones premieres… in 2011? Jeez, people. How hard is it to get a fantasy series out? You don’t even need special effects - you just need to go to New Zealand.

My heart might have hardened over by then, but in the meantime, here is a stupid trailer that shows us nothing and might induce seizures if viewed in low light:

This is what I will be doing Feb 5th

Um, what? I haven’t watched Smallville in YEARS. What happened? So, Clark can’t fly on Smallville in order to keep him “grounded”, but meanwhile they will introduce the ENTIRETY of the Justice Society? BWAHAHAhahahHAha…

Ok, now that I’m over the initial shock, I totally have to watch this. I love seeing live action superpowers and this looks like it is going to be *amazing* one way or another.

Any ideas on a drinking game?

Torchwood goes limp

FOX is an amazing entity. Over and over they sucker us nerds into their bosom only to knee us in the groin and laugh as they leave us bleeding and alone in a dark alley. And we keep falling for it.

We may all be preparing for makeup sex, as there is news out that FOX is considering bringing Torchwood to the US (supposedly with the UK producers - and possibly even John Barrowman). I’m not a huge fan of Torchwood to start with (I never made it past the horrific acting in episode 6, “Countrycide”), so I’m not concerned with FOX “ruining” it. But I just can’t imagine they’ll keep any of the magic that keeps so many of my friends coming back for more.

What if this leads to a Magnum P.I. movie?

A-TEAM MOVIE TRAILER REMOVED FROM SITE
The official release is supposed to be later this month, we’ll get it back then!

Even watching this trailer with my own two eyes, I can’t believe there is an A-Team movie coming out. How is this not a College Humor parody? As someone who found a way to love GI Joe: Rise of Cobra, I’m not sure I can get on board with this.

I just stare at it dumbfounded. At least GI Joe gave us a CGI extravaganza where we got to see our childhood memories brought to life. This A-Team movie appears to bring nothing new to the table beside updated hairstyles and filming techniques (and a badly CG’ed air battle).

Are there people out there excited for this? Am I biased because I watched more Airwolf than A-Team? Did Baracus need a mohawk and Hannibal a cigar for us to know who they are?

Only time will tell…

Impending goodness

Looks like Teefury has some geeky goodness coming up in the next week! Remember, their shirts are only available for one day, so stay on top of it!

Oh yeah, this is why I love Castle

I’m pretty sure that Castle, while generally not nerdy, is my current favorite television show. And what do I get in return? Nerdiness! In the clip above, Nathan Fillion gets to make a Firefly, Buffy AND Underworld references. Teehee!

Sarah Michelle Geller-Prinze is missing out on this.

This pic makes me so happy! Taken by Alyson Hannigan, herself, it features her husband Alexis Denisof (right) and David Boreanaz(center) at the Emmy awards last Sunday night. I think it is so awesome that not only are all these great people finding success post-Buffy, but they are all still great friends. Good people doing good things - I’m all for it!

ps. How great would it be if Nathan Fillion and David Boreanaz co-starred in something together?!?! I would love to see Nathan in this dance party with David and Alexis :)

Neil Patrick Harris is a bridge builder

I think I’ve made my love for Neil Patrick Harris pretty clear on this blog, so the news that I watched the Emmy’s last night should be of no surprise. It’s the most mainstream thing I’ve done all year! But it wasn’t just NPH that drew me in, it was the promise of a Dr. Horrible production halfway through the show!

When I first heard about it, I was puzzled. I had to take a step outside of the nerd box and ask myself, “If Joss Whedon a household name in middle America? How will they make Dr. Horrible understandable to those without context?” But I needed have worried. While the characterizations were a bit off, and the background was bluescreened, the content was hilarious and generic enough to be understandable to the “Whedonless”.

One thing the casual viewer wouldn’t get though, was the awkward representation of Joss Whedon’s support of new mediums (reiterated as recently as Joss’s acceptance speech at the Creative Arts Emmys). Dr. Horrible’s support of the internet as a new entertainment medium was merely self effacing jokes and Captain Hammer definitely stole the show. What do you think the take home message was supposed to be?

Just when you thought Caprica might be good…

Ah… James Marsters… why can’t you have fallen into a crevasse after Buffy the Vampire Slayer wrapped? I can’t say you’ve raised the bar since then. I have some serious concerns about you making Caprica a campy mess with your presence.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s description of Marster’s character, it appears he’ll basically be playing … Spike (pre-goodiegoodie transformation)? “Marsters will play a dangerous terrorist leader by the name of Barnabus Greeley… Driven by desires both moralistic and carnal, Barnabus is as lethal as he is unpredictable.”

May the power of Eric Stoltz and Patton Oswalt (also recently confirmed to be joining the show) be enough to carry Caprica through…

Where are Sony and Nintendo?

Project Natal* is taking over the airwaves. No matter where you look there it is.

But where are Nintendo and Sony? Surely Nintendo, the only company who’s motion control tech is ready for the market, should be on Conan getting him to do some kayaking or fencing with their MotionPlus. And Sony, who’s continues to lag behind Xbox in everyway, had best get on the scene before no one gives a shit about their magic spin pop.

Meanwhile, I will enjoy Bill from True Blood destroying Jimmy Fallon and Jim from the Office at Breakout, Project Natal style.

*They can say Nay-Tall all they want, it will always be Nay-Tal to me.

Maybe it won’t be a piece of shit afterall!

When you heard the announcement they were making an A-Team movie, I’m sure you shared the same concern I did, “How can you make a modern movie of such an amazing camp classic?” Many of us were convinced that you couldn’t.

But having to recast BA Baracus be damned, this thing is starting to shape up! With Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson in talks to play Templeton “Face” Peck and Col. John “Hannibal” Smith respectively.. this could work…

Yes! …oh no…..

Neil Patrick Harris has signed onto two movies. Guess which one I’m excited about:

-The Best and the Brightest as a father who moves with his status-conscious wife and young child from Delaware to New York City’s Upper East Side; co-stars will include Amy Sedaris and John Hodgman.

- Beastly, an updated take on the “Beauty and the Beast” story starring Alex Pettyfer, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Vanessa Hudgens.
